[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Are the Reason for Youth Athletic Success

sports

Franklin County offers one of the best youth athletic programs in the region. We’re proud to provide a wide variety of sports with high participation rates, all at a very low cost. Last year alone, 3,844 kids participated in one of the 14 different sports we offer. No matter what sport your child is interested in, chances are we have it!

This incredible program wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration between Parks and Recreation, athletic clubs, and the many volunteers who coach our teams. Last year, 738 coaching positions were filled by dedicated volunteers who made a positive impact on our kids. Their contribution is invaluable—without them, this program simply wouldn’t exist. These volunteers generously spend their time and energy, often after long workdays, to create opportunities for our children to play sports.

Recognizing the vital role of volunteer coaches in our community, the Franklin County Board of Supervisors has created a new position within Franklin County Parks and Recreation dedicated to supporting these volunteers. We’re excited to welcome Gil Warren to our team! Gil is responsible for providing resources to help our volunteer coaches better instruct our young athletes, both as players and as citizens. You’ll see Gil at practices and games, so be sure to say hello. He’s eager to discuss coaching opportunities and hear your feedback on our youth athletic program.
