[ARCHIVED] Franklin County Trails Offers Variety and Quality

trails

Our region has a reputation for having great trails. You don’t have to travel far to reach a path for your next adventure. From the world-renowned Appalachian Trail and Carvins Cove Natural Reserve to water trails such as the James River Water Trail which is designated as a Virginia Scenic River by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, quality trails in our area are everywhere.

Possibly you prefer a Franklin County adventure a bit closer to home. In addition to having two water trails also known as Blueways (Pigg River and Blackwater River), our County hosts an amazing network of paths suitable for adventurers of every age. From Summit View’s half-mile cinder trail or Smith Farm’s two-mile Lovely Valley Loop to Waid Park’s 16 miles of trails, there is a Franklin County trail that will get you outside enjoying nature.

No matter what trail type piques your interest we all agree that nothing is better than a well-maintained trail system. Franklin County Parks and Recreation is excited to now have a full-time Maintenance Trails Worker. Daryl Hagood will be ensuring that overgrowth is no longer an issue as he works towards providing the best trail experience possible for every user group. Make sure to introduce yourself when you see him in the woods. He would love to tell you about a volunteer opportunity or simply get feedback regarding your impression of the trail.  Please click here to find more information on trails throughout Franklin County: https://www.playfranklincounty.com/251/Trails.  See you on the trail!
